A song-lover at heart, Pierre-Nicolas Colombat’s musical activities also include opera, research, writing, and community organizing. His work as a song-pianist includes performances across Europe as well as in North and South America. With his duo partners he has received prizes from the Wigmore, Copenhagen, and IVC international song competitions. In 2024, he founded the Boston Text and Tone Festival with Elias Dagher.
As an opera coach and rehearsal pianist, Colombat has worked on productions in the United States and more recently at Theater Basel and Sarasota Opera (Florida) where he was engaged as Cover Conductor for The Merry Widow. He published his doctoral dissertation “Music and Modern Power: A performer’s tracing of Virtuosity and Musical Value” through Boston University in 2021.
Recent work includes the essay, video, and full-album project 'Wagner’s Nightmare' with violist Daniel Orsen. His most recent album, 'Sept fois C-is' was featured in Bandcamp’s Top Ten field-recordings list upon its release in 2025. It is part of an exploration of what Pierre-Nicolas and his composer brother, Henri Colombat, call "guerrilla streaming".
A French-American from Baltimore, Maryland, he currently lives in Basel, Switzerland. Pierre-Nicolas is a Samling Artist.
