Ellie Stamp

Mezzo-Soprano

Ellie is a 23-year-old mezzo-soprano currently based in Oxford. After spending several years studying primarily as a flautist at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music, she participated in the 2018-19 Genesis Sixteen programme for young singers. She has since performed chorally in venues across the country, including Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle, St Martin in the Fields, Bridgwater Hall in Manchester, and Edinburgh’s Usher Hall.

In 2022, Ellie graduated from the University of York with vocal performance awards and the John Paynter Prize for her contribution to the musical life of the department. She has spent this past year singing as the first female Lay Clerk at New College, Oxford, which whom she has also performed as a soloist in repertoire such as Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St John Passion. Other recent solo work includes Mozart’s Requiem and Rossini’s Stabat Mater with Scarborough Choral Society, for whom Ellie will be performing Vivaldi’s Gloria in 2024.

Ellie has appeared in opera productions including Handel’s Acis and Galatea at Ryedale Festival, Handel's Theodora at Northern Aldborough Festival, Rameau’s Castor et Pollux at Stour Music Festival, the world premiere of John Barber’s The Selfish Giant with Garsington Opera Youth Company, and Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti with New Chamber Opera. She particularly enjoyed performing in Kristina Arakelyan’s innovative new opera Penelope: Seven Ways to Wait as part of the 2022 Grimeborn Opera Festival. This summer, Ellie is looking forward to returning to Ryedale Festival for their production of John Blow’s Venus and Adonis.
