Charlotte Bowden

Soprano

British soprano Charlotte Bowden is a graduate of the Royal College of Music Opera Studio. She is also an alumna of the Verbier Festival Atelier Lyrique, Glyndebourne/Jerwood, Opera Holland Park, Samling, Britten-Pears, and Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artist programmes and studies with Rosa Mannion.

Charlotte made her Wigmore Hall debut as Orfeo in Handel's Parnasso in festa with the London Handel Festival and has sung at the Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Snape Maltings, the Aldeburgh Festival, and London Song Festival. She received Second Prize at the 2024 International Handel Singing Competition, Second Prize at the 2023 Innsbruck Festival International Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti, and was a finalist in the 2022 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

As a 2022 Jerwood Young Artist Charlotte made her debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne Festival. She reprised the role and covered Susanna for the Glyndebourne Tour, for which she received the Miss Miriam Trevaux Award and returned in Autumn 2023 as Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Other recent operatic roles include her debut with Waterperry Opera Festival as the Governess in The Turn of the Screw, Juliette in Die tote Stadt (ENO Cover), The Dew Fairy (OHP), Susanna (OHP Young Artist), Gretel (British Youth Opera/Silent Opera and RCM Opera), Pamina (RCM Opera Studio), Flaminia in Il mondo della luna (RCM Opera Studio), and Bridesmaid in Der Freischütz (Sir Mark Elder/OAE).

Recent and upcoming highlights include her debut at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, returns to the Ravenna Festival in the Autumn as Belinda in Dido and Aeneas and Melanto in Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, and to Glyndebourne for Vivaldi's Gloria and Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium.
